Tribute to Iain House, 1966 - 2021

In the RPG called Sea of Stars, available on pretty much all consoles (Switch, PS5, Xbox's, etc..) there is a crypt that you eventually discover as you play the game.
Once you get inside, there are messages left by people who supported the game's development as far back as 2020, before its release in 2023, these messages are found on stones around rooms.

The one dedicated to Iain is the one seen in the images below on the left with the sunlight shining on it in the screenshot:


For those who have the game and want to get there, here's how:

1. Once you enter the crypt, use the first teleportation disk at the bottom-left (see picture 1)

2. Walk to the left and up, where you'll find the stone (from picture 2) and can interact with it to display the message.

Despite being a year older than Iain, we became good friends, linked through our common skills in computing. He was a wizard with the school's Apple II and helped set up the first few BBC Micros at the school, and he even soldered together his own Acorn Atom machine. I remember him regularly travelling on the bus to computer club at Biggin Hill with a micro in the rucksack and small TV strapped to the top. 

I remember too his generosity (and his Mum's) , and I often found myself at Canadian Avenue. 

He then followed me to work at Lewisham Sainsbury's and we gradually lost touch after that. I was really saddened to stumble across this site and to hear of his passing. I send my condolences and best wishes to his family. 

When I was 17 I attended a music event hosted in some empty warehouse on an industrial estate in south London, although the event would be shut down by police at 2am and all of us were dispersed. I found myself stranded in an area I was unfamiliar with, in the middle of the night, and unsure where the nearest night bus even was. Out of options I rung Iain and said "Hi dad, I'm in a bit of a tight spot and was wondering if you could come pick me up?"

To my suprise and relief his joyful response was "Yeah that'd be fine I was just about to put dinner on but I'll leave it in the fridge." 20 minutes later he pulled up in his car and drove me back to his where we shared a pizza. The whole evening he never told me off for putting myself in that situation, or not planning a route home beforehand. I think he was just relieved I knew to call him when I needed help instead of doing something stupid like wandering around at night.

It really spoke to his nature, that he would allow us to make our own choices or mistakes but would never turn away from helping us if we genuinely needed his assistance.
